High Demand for AI Engineers and Data Scientists in Fintech

Specialist skills in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, along with essential soft skills like communication and adaptability, are in high demand in the fintech sector. This trend is especially prominent in Singapore, where 90% of job seekers in the fintech sector hold at least a bachelor’s degree, according to the Singapore Fintech Talent Report 2025.

Growing Demand for Specialist Roles in Fintech

The demand for roles like AI engineers, data scientists, and machine learning professionals is surging due to the increasing adoption of AI technologies in fintech. The report highlights that 92% of employers prioritize communication and teamwork, while 85% emphasize adaptability and learning agility, over formal qualifications. These findings reflect a shift toward valuing human capabilities and soft skills in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

Upskilling and Reskilling Initiatives

In response to the growing demand for skilled professionals, nearly 23% of respondents are pursuing online courses in AI, data analytics, and advanced Excel. The report also reveals that 21% of organizations are focusing on upskilling and reskilling their existing workforce to close skills gaps and future-proof their teams. This aligns with the broader industry trend of prioritizing adaptability and continuous learning.

The survey further highlighted a mismatch between employee salary expectations and employer constraints. While two-thirds of fintech professionals cited salary as the primary reason for changing jobs, 70% of employers mentioned that budget constraints would heavily influence hiring strategies in 2026.

Fintech firms are also realizing that strong organizational culture and leadership trust are now crucial factors in attracting and retaining top talent. Additionally, 84% of firms emphasize competitive pay, while 77% stress the importance of hybrid work options and career progression opportunities in talent retention strategies.

In a rapidly evolving fintech landscape, employers who combine digital innovation with human insight are expected to lead the next wave of success.
